SHEKHAR KAPURS's BLOG
They envy him, they despise him and they emulate him. Every second film director in Bollywood would love to do a la Kapur.

Tony Blair and the Global Cool Film
June 13, 2007. The internet is rife with rumours that my next film is called Global Cool with Tony Blair and Sienna Miller in the lead. Actually 'Global Cool' is an organization that is dedicated to bringing the message of Global Warming to the youth. Hopefully we can make energy conservation, water conservation etc a fun thing to do, and a social activity. Sienna Miller, Tony Blair and I are all members of this organization....More>>>Preity Zinta
I know I am breaking my own resolve by writing this. But the Indian press has gone haywire on my supposed affair with Priety Zinta . Some people in the press have said that I am coward for not accepting it. Some that I am deliberately not denying it because it adds to my 'macho' image (which I have run away from all my life). I just do not want to feed the voyeuristic 'feeding frenzy' that the Indian media revels in. I just thought I would clear this for the readers of this blog. And incidentally, I did issue a short and curt denial, but no one published it apparently. More>>>
Coalition of the killing
London, March 12, 2007: The house is on fire, and everyone discusses the politics of the fire brigade. Between 50 to a 100 innocent Iraqi civilians are dying everyday. The more that are killed, the more the horrendous death toll is turning into a mere statistic to fill the time slot for CNN or BBC, or whatever. The attention has turned much more to the politcal negotiations and machinations, the finacial cost to the US, the exact number of soldiers to be sent to Iraq or Afganistaan...
Talk, Talk, Talk, Talk,
It's sickening how we can all avoid the real issue. The individuality of the deaths. The pain of the children More>>>
Paradise Now
9th February 2007
Babel is a work of absolute genius, but still stands, in my view, the second best film of last year. The best film is a unquestioningly a Palestinian film called 'Paradise Now', which was not even recognized by any of the awards announced. That is why awards such as the Oscars will always be suspect..
So if you get a chance, see Paradise Now. It is a film about two friends that sign up to go on a suicide bomb attack inside Isreal, and the events that follow. It is riveting, not in the forced 'hollywoodized' way of say United 93, but in an absolutely real and raw way. And the central male lead is far far better than any other performance of the year.....More>>>
Shilpa Shetty in Big Brother
29 Jan 2007.
I for one felt really proud of Shilpa as she emerged as a winner from Big Brother. I got texts from all my 'western' friends - all very excited and asking me to turn on the TV .
Shilpa was charming and honest. My heart went out to her as she admitted that she had won nothing in her life before. And then I read all those quotes from the Hindi film Industry saying that she was always a 'B' grade actress and most likely to remain so.
Hey ! I am rooting for her. I hope she proves them all wrong. I hope she gets huge contracts in the UK and certainly deserves to make more than the £ 8 million that the awful Jane Goody made from her previous appearance..... More>>>
Staring at the Universe forever
I was about 9 years old. We lived in Delhi at a time when there was no pollution. In summer the nights were cool and the whole family slept on the 'Kotha.' The terrace of our little rented bungalow in Nizamuddin.
I still remember the earthy taste of the water from the clay baked 'Surahi' that lay there in case you felt thirsty. The water was cooled through the natural physical laws of osmosis and evaporation. Plastic bottles were unknown and I still cannot get used to the taste of water that comes out of a plastic bottle ....More>>>
Shedding crocodile tears for Saddam
I am not standing up for Saddam. But I am sick and tired of the duplicity of the coalition forces in Iraq. What kind of schoolboy politicians run the US administration if they did not know about the differences between Shia and Sunni. What kind of schoolboy politicians really believed that Iraqi's would continue to welcome foreign invaders with open arms ? When was the last time any Arab nation lived comfortably under foreign rule ? Especially non islamic Western rule ?......More>>>
A mother's letter from Noida
I was told that they found my daughter's body. Not the whole body, just the legs, arms and severed head. The agony now ends. For a year I have been begging the police to help find her. They would humiliate us, and sneer. " She must have run away with a boy" they laughed.
My daughter was 9 years old when she went missing....
I am told that her body was cut up surgically. I pray that she felt no pain. I pray that whoever took her away from us had atleast had such innocent lives with some compassion........
US Immigration & Bollywood !
Coming into the Customs/immigration area in LA, I am always looked upon really suspiciously. I used to look like a Columbian drug smuggler when they were in vogue. Now I look like an Arab terrorist. They are the latest in fashion. Yesterday something strange happened....More>>>
